The abandoned gardens were to have opened on Sunday 10th August
for the first time since 1938.
Due to the cancellation of the Show on Sunday this was not possible.

FRIDAY EVENTS
Though muddy under foot the weather was fair and the half marathon got underway
right on time at 12 noon.
Due to the muddy ground the route was slightly amended
at the start
Some time later, (approx 1hr and 20 minutes) the front runners approached the final few metres with the castle in the background
Once over the finishing line its....WATER and a welcomed sandwich!!
There were many opportunities to explore the muddy ground
A famous face from Border TV was there to cover the event

SATURDAY EVENTS
.... were all listed in the souvenir programme
Among the events on Saturday were THE RAF DOG TEAM, JEAN FRANCOIS PIGNON and a FALCONRY DISPLAY
while the music played on ....
Jean Francois Pignon showed remarkable skill and great empathy with his horses
The parade of hounds was as interesting as always and an opportunity loved by all the children
and the birds of prey are always a great attraction to adults and children alike
In the show jumping Jonathan Dixon from Carlisle
needed little asistance in taking the Senior prize
... but in other situations a great deal of HELP was required
The great sound of The Yorkshire Volunteers Band ....
.... brings the day to a fitting close playing some memorable military tunes for everyone to sing on their way home
SUNDAY EVENTS - CANCELLED
Due to heavy overnight rain
and prevailing conditions on the show field
While the show was closed to spectators
the main arena continued with the CONES part of the horse driving trials
in the rain rain rain!!
while trade stand contributors waited to be helped
carriage drivers patiently waited to take to the arena ...
in the squelchy mud...
... many of the grooms retained happy faces despite the apalling conditions ...
FIRST - Pony Pairs ...
to the delight of the select audience ...
... and those who had chanced to pass by ...
... and the valiant ring stewards who kept things right to time
and stuck it out till the very last ....
... and officials reflected on an empty show ground
and the worst weather for 35 years!

After a heavy night of rainfall it was with great regret that the organisers had to cancel the final day,
the first time in the show's 35 year history.
Refund Policy
Lowther is a charitable event and cancellation of the last day will be a severe blow financially,
we hope people will take this into consideration with regards to refunds....
For those who purchased advanced tickets for Sunday 10th August
the organisers of the event will arrange refunds or alternative tickets for the corresponding day next year,
providing this year’s tickets are returned to THEM with a stamped self addressed envelope by the 15th of September 2008.
Please state clearly whether a refund or replacement ticket is required.
Next years show takes place on August the 7th 8th 9th 2009.
