Ben MacDougall & Friends
Recently returned from five weeks in the US where he was working with world-famous conductor Lorin Maazel,
Eden musician Ben MacDougall is to give a concert as part of the successful Best in Eden festival.
Ben MacDougall & Friends – Music for a Summer Evening
was held in
The Barn, Newby End Farm (near Newby and Morland)
at 7.30pm on Saturday 28th August.
The show included performances from guest musicians
including American soprano Megan Welker
and London-based guitarist James O’Neil.
“We wanted to contribute to the excitement of the excellent Best in Eden festival
and thought an evening of informal music-making amongst friends would be immense fun.
This should be a great night out at the end of the summer holidays.
We are playing music together in a friendly and intimate venue
and want the music itself to reach out to the whole audience.”
Also taking part was David Jones on piano and Ben’s sister Kirstin,
who has performed with him before on the flute.
Ben studied flute at the Royal College of Music in London,
where he was the winner of both the RCM senior flute prize and the senior woodwind prize.
He has performed in major venues all over the UK, Europe
and the US and has appeared on both radio and television.
As a composer,
he has recently completed a series of scores for short films,
which were premiered in July at the National Gallery in London.
Cumbrian audiences also know Ben
as the presenter of BBC Radio Cumbria’s Simply Classics
at 6pm every Sunday evening.
