Parish Clerk Stands Down
after 35 Years Service
On Monday 8th September The Parkin Memorial Hall
saw the retirement of Edward Lowthian MBE
after 35 years of dedicated service
as Clerk to the Parish of Barton.
The change over was celebrated at 7.30pm
at the hall amongst friends and people of the parish.
The evening was presided over by Maj Dennis Neill
who thanked Mr Lowthian for his long and dedicated service to the parish and its people.
These sentiments were echoed by those district councillors present as well as friends and parishioners.

Mr Lowthian was brought up in Pooley Bridge
and succeeded Reg Meakin as parish clerk in 1973.

Pat Newsham now takes over
and congratulated Edward on his long serving achievment.
Among the many projects he has undertaken, he said that his role in
helping Eden Housing make provision for affordable housing in the parish
came as one of the most rewarding
.

The development was given a royal seal of approval
when HRH Prince Charles visited the properties and chose
Pooley Bridge for the launch of a publication entitled
'Creating a Sense of Place - A Design Guide'
