The hi-tec approach in the Golden Fleece!

Local Parishioners Enjoy Good Time at Golden Fleece – Brough.

If you decide to attend the local pub on a Sunday evening then you are going for a good time, a few drinks and to chat about anything and everything until someone calls time! While normally, The Golden Fleece at Brough is little different from any other local hostelry in our rural villages, on Sunday 19th June it was different!

Following a generous bowl of Chicken soup and a roll which was served from 6.30pm the local vicar the Rev Brian Magorrian from North Stainmore and a number of his parishioners all became involved in an in-depth, hi-tec interactive experience as part of their Sunday Worship!

Around 20 local people aged from 8 to 80 filled the little bar and met to worship and ponder on the meaning and effects of TIME! This flexible service focussed on how we all spend and think about time and how we use it. Led by Brian with interjections from his attentive flock, the numerous ideas flowed back and forth as the live music, a paper and pencil game and also animated video presentations illustrated many of the relevant points. This included an 11-minute clip from a popular program illustrating what might happen if our life on earth were to be curtailed to a final 24 hours of life. While this was very funny at times it also provided much food for thought and time was allocated later to enable people to reflect on their own thoughts along these lines.

The feel of the service was informal and the occasional interjections were all welcomed and considered a vital part of the proceedings. The three piece band which accompanied and led the contemporary songs gave contrast to the service and the well prepared talk by Brian posed many questions and challenged many of our concepts and pre-conceived ideas about time.

During the service, a digital projector, CD player, amplifier and speakers and laptop computer helped to run this hi-tek presentation to the last second and was very well received by all those who attended. The next service of this type is to be held in September
when everyone will be welcomed.

The theme 'TIME' was
presented by the Rev Brian Magorrian

The presentation/service commenced at around 7pm and
time was called at about 8.20pm!
