Lowther Show Announces New Sponsors for 2005
The Lowther Horse Driving Trials and Country Fair,
is pleased to announce that this year’s three-day
celebration of country life will be jointly sponsored
by
The Edinburgh Woollen Mill Ltd.
and Cumberland Ale.
When the Lowther Horse Driving Trials
first started on a snowy weekend in April in 1972
no one could have imagined that 32 years later
the event would grow to be one of the biggest out-door shows
in the North of England, and would be attracting up to 60,000 spectators a year,
enjoying all the fun Lowther has to offer.
As the saying goes “from small acorns do great Oaks grow,”
and that has certainly been true about the Lowther Horse Driving Trials,
even more so since the addition
of the Lowther Country Fair to the show in 1976,
which this year, in addition to the famous Horse Driving Trials,
has attracted entertainers from as far a field as Africa and Europe.
A troupe of Maasai Warriors
and French daredevil Lorenzo “the Flying Frenchman”
will be attending this year’s great show.
The Lowther Shopping Village,
which has grown in size once again to a massive 350 stands,
will include the famous Cumbrian Food Hall,
Made in Cumbria and Rural Craft marquees.
The Shopping Village will be open from 9am
throughout all three days of the show.
With the profile of the Lowther Show so high today
it is no surprise that the show has attracted two high-profile sponsors
that are delighted to be associated with Lowther in 2005.
The Edinburgh Woollen Mill Ltd
was founded in 1946.
It became an independent privately owned Company
following a management buyout led by the Chief Executive, Philip Day.
Today the Company has over three hundred stores
and concessions throughout the United Kingdom.
The business is made up of mainstream high street fashion stores,
tourist shops and out of town destination sites
which sell luxury high quality goods,
offering value for money fashion targeted at the over 45 market.
The Edinburgh Woollen Mill takes pride in having a reputation
for being specialists in luxury Cashmere.
Jennings Brewery
was established in 1828 and
moved to its current location in 1874
in the historic market town of Cockermouth.
Situated in the shadow of Cockermouth Castle,
at the point where the rivers Cocker and Derwent merge,
visitors to the brewery can see the original well
where pure Lakeland water is still used today
for brewing the unique Jennings ales.
Known to many as the genuine taste of the Lake District,
Cumberland Ale is just one of the ales brewed at the Cockermouth site.
With an increase in sales of over 50% in the last two years,
Cumberland Ale has become a tourist attraction in itself.
Besides its unique beer portfolio,
Jennings Brewery also owns over 130 pubs,
stretching from the Lake District to Lancashire,
Cheshire, Yorkshire and the North East of England.
This year’s Lowther Show
will take place on August 5th 6th and 7th
at Lowther Castle, near Penrith.
Tickets cost £8.50 for the Friday
(Dressage and the opening of the Shopping Village only),
£13.50 for Saturday and £13 on the Sunday.
Tickets purchased before July 25th,
can be bought at discounted prices.
