INVITATION

Rydal Community Vegetable Garden

Hi Everyone

This Saturday and every Saturday from now on
I will be up in the Veg garden throughout the day
which I'm hoping will be good for a large portion of the group,
I'll also be around during the week as and when people are around.
The best thing would be to let me know if you were thinking of popping up
if you had a certain job in mind that you'd like to get stuck into.

This Saturday the weather is looking good so we can do a good range of jobs
and seed sowing will definitely feature-keep fingers crossed for that sun.

Since Christmas, Cumbria County Council got in touch
to say they wanted to assist the garden financially
and I suggested some money for signs in the garden
but also to lead the public up from the public footpath running through the estate.
We successfully secured £1,000 that will give us a good mix of signs for outdoors
but also indoors including the teashop and garden cabin.
I'm really keen that we get the public wandering up to the garden this year
as the garden's going to look amazing.
A big thank you to Lucy who was instrumental in securing the money
for the signs at very short notice.

The old greenhouse has been taken down
so we can really begin to think about turning this part of the south facing wall
into a sensory garden packed full of aromatic fragrant plants that will thrive in the hot summer sun.

The water situation this summer will (I hope) be assisted
by a large 3,000 litre water tank in the garden that will be sited close to the large greenhouse
and will collect rainwater from its roof.
The overflow can then fill water butts throughout the garden.

I don't want to send you all to sleep with too much writing
but I just want to say bear with me this year
and I'll work my very hardest to keep you more up to date
with what's happening in the garden
and please please please get in touch if there's anything you'd really like to do this year.
It's going to be exciting to watch last years amazing progress
develop into what is shaping up to be a cracking little garden.

See you all soon and remember, this Saturday onwards!

Tom
