Gallery owner David Morris checks over the details
and history of the work in the Exhibition

Gordon Dent

Gordon was born in Barrow-in-Furness and after wartime service in the army studied art in London
and subsequently took a post teaching art in Bedfordshire.

During the fifties he was a member and exhibited with the Free Painters Group.

During this time, for a period of about twenty years he exhibited his work in several London Galleries,
provincial galleries and abroad, which included one man shows.

In 1957, Heal fabrics Ltd. bought the painting 'Voyagers' and produced it as fabric in several colourways. In 1959 they produced another fabric 'Pavonian Spray' followed by 'Thistle' in 1961. Examples of these fabrics are in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and in the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester.

The fabric 'Voyagers' is illustrated in a new book called 'Artists Textiles in Britain 1945 - 1970' published by The Antique Collectors Club in association with The Fine Arts Society/Target Gallery.

Artist Gordon Dent from Nateby discusses one of his most impressive works with David

Gordon was fascinated by music and the new technique
he had developed back in the 50's and 60's.

Gordon has over a hundred paintings from his earlier days
most of them are still in very good condition.

David and Caroline Morris,
both well known artists in their own right,
will continue to exhibit their own work
in the gallery at the usual times
at the conclusion of the current exhibition.
