SURE START

A Sure Start for every child!

Sure Start is the Government’s programme to support children and families
from pregnancy through to age 19 by providing early education for all children,
and more and better quality childcare.
It is reshaping early education, childcare and family services
by establishing integrated programmes such as children’s centres
and extended schools.

Children’s centres and extended schools combine education,
childcare, health and family support, and are initially starting in the most disadvantaged areas,
however by 2010 the Government’s aim is to have a children’s centre
or an extended school in every community.
Cumbria Sure Start is responsible for delivering
the national Sure Start agenda for the children, parents
and communities of Cumbria.

Sure Start also works to increase recruitment of staff to the early years
and childcare sector and offers training and support to staff working with children.
Courses are offered at a variety of different levels
and staff at Cumbria Sure Start can offer help
and advice to anyone interested.
So if you’re thinking of becoming a childminder
or would like to work in a nursery Cumbria Sure Start can help.
