It is expected that many of the group will be using digital compact cameras, and it will be wise to bring the hand-book preferably having re-read it with camera in the hand the night before! Make sure your batteries are charged and there is lots of capacity on the memory card.

Depending on the weather we shall head north near the Ullswater shore to explore vistas towards Pooley Bridge and back towards Glenridding. There are lots of trees, mosses and a waterfall ending with a lookout (a wartime gun emplacement) over the lake. It will be possible to visit the Steamer Pier and take photos of the lake steamers. Two experienced photographers will accompany the group and help everyone to find good subjects and improve their picture-taking.

We return for lunch at Greystones in Glenridding, which you will already have paid for. After which we walk to Patterdale Community Development Centre where there is a lecture room with twelve computer work stations and card readers for downloading images. Before looking at our morning’s efforts we shall have a Power Point introduction to digital cameras and working with digital images, as well as covering what we can do with images for friends and family. There will be examples to view, giving new ideas to get more fun from photography. Questions welcome!

Downloading memory cards it will then be possible for everyone to view their pictures on a computer screen or through a digital projector, and to explore what adjustments (with Photoshop) would bring the final result to what we saw through our eyes – sorry, the camera can lie! Images may be printed at 6 in x 4 in. Both our photographers are qualified judges and we shall finish with a competition for the best picture. The afternoon session will finish not later than 4.30 pm.
