The watery landscape leading to San Marco

The stage area in San Marco where many of the acts took place ....

.... including, for the first time, a drag queen competition!

A number of competitors capably performed to backing tracks

and appeared to enjoy the whole performance

This family from China were due to travel on to Paris

as were these visitors in traditional Japanese costume

while these wild west characters were staying for a while.

All over the city, the lavish costumes could be seen

here and there.

As well as the masks, the classic local scenes were well appreciated

by the thousands of tourists and photographers ...

... and Italians who had travelled in for the Carnival.

San Marco is well known for its pigeons

... and Rialto is the site of some amazing activity that continues day after day

There were visitors from France, Japan, USA, China
and those above were from the depths of Birmingham UK!
