Millennium Stone Ceremony

The children of Yanwath School were asked to celebrate Millennium Day 2004 and decided they would like to mark the occasion in song, dance and prayer. The children wanted to celebrate all of creation and to offer prayers for our world.The children looked to other cultures to discover how creation and prayer are celebrated in other parts of the world.

Kye Kye Kule is a traditional West African song and dance. The dance says..'Almighty God, please give us strength for our heads, clothes for our shoulders, food for our tummies and we will dance for YOU'
The Bee Dance is a traditional Argentinean dance designed to encourage a good harvest and to celebrate the natural world.

A number of parents visited the site and enjoyed the Millennium Stone Celebrations

Canon Markham said a few words at the end of the Celebrations.

Canon Markham leads the children, who had previously painted stones, in a dance around the huge Millennium stone.

Parents and toddlers were all part of the important celebrations.
Maybe some of these toddlers will be the ones dancing round the stone on July 2nd in another 5 or 6 years!

Tibetan prayer flags are decorated with symbols and prayers which are spread around the world by the winds and are said to bring happiness, long life and prosperity to the flag painter and those in the vicinity.

After the ceremnony many parents took time to read some of the children's thoughtful work.
